Top 10 Thriller Movies

What do you think?

Below I will list in reverse order what I consider to be the top 10 thriller movies of all time. Like you, I love a good thriller and sometimes find myself a little stuck as to what to watch next. I hope that by reading this you may find a hidden gem you hadn't yet seen. If you disagree and think something else should be listed, that's great, please make a comment at the bottom so we can all share in your knowledge.

I will also list links to each film so that if you want to buy a particular movie you can; all you need to do is kick back with a bowl of popcorn and watch. Please be aware that I will link to the Blu-Ray if available so make sure you search for the DVD if you don't have a Blue-Ray player. If available I have also linked to Amazon Instant where you can download and watch the video immediately for change.

Number 10 - Jaws - 1975

If you havn't seen this film then you may as well stop reading right now and make sure you watch it. This is an absolute classic.

Set during a typical busy summer season on the holiday island Amity; where the new Sheriff becomes concerned about a large man eating Shark which is attacking tourists. The film follows his battle to stop the attacks and destroy the shark. He not only has to battle the Shark but also the Mayer of Amity Island and crowds of frustrated swimmers. If you love spending your summers at the beach, perhaps think twice before watching this one, you may never want to go in the water again!

Jaws Trailer

Number 9 - The Shining - 1980

This film is a cross between thriller and horror and will keep you on the edge of your seat. Assuming you don't fall off!

It tells the story of a happy family who offer to act as caretakers for a hotel which becomes isolated during the winter months. As the winter slowly passes by the father begins to go insane, at the same time his son is experiencing visions of the hotels past.

A classic thriller that you must see.

The Shining Trailer

Number 8 - Se7ev - 1995

This is the story of two detectives who are on the search for a serial killer. The killer is systematically executing random victims who have each committed one of the seven deadly sins. As the clock ticks down and the bodies mount up the detectives must try to understand the mind of the killer and find him before his task is complete. This is a very popular film and if you like the classic detective style movie it is one you must not miss.

Se7ev Trailer

Number 7 - Inception - 2010

This film is set in a world where it is possible to intercept another persons mind and see their deepest thoughts. It is also a world where ideas can be stolen straight from ones subconscious. Dom Cobb is one of the finest criminals in this field and has built up a hefty list of crimes. Crimes that are now forcing him to live a life on the run. He is offered a once off opportunity to wipe the slate clean if he can just plant an idea into someones mind. This is not as easy as it may seem and has never been achieved before. An interesting movie that will leave you thinking.

Inception Trailer

Number 6 - Pulp Fiction - 1994

This is a difficult film to describe. Lets just say that it involves two hit men, a gangsta, a boxer and a couple on a date. Their lives become intertwined in this dark and even funny at times film. All I can say is watch it.

Pulp Fiction Trailer

Number 5 - The Sixth Sense - 1999

A fantastic film about a child physiologist who attempts to help a young boy who claims he 'sees dead people'. The physiologists relationship with the boy deepens as he attempts to help him with his visions. It is a bit of a cross between thriller and horror with plenty of scary scenes. If you like a great ending, you need to watch this one.

The Sixth Sense Trailer

Number 4 - The Prestige - 2006

This is the battle between two rival magicians. One blames the other for the death of his wife and both continually try to upstage each other with bigger and more spectacular illusions. The rivalry leads to a tragic end as one of them invents the ultimate illusion. Full of suspense as a good thriller should be, this one will leave you guessing until the end.

The Prestige Trailer

Number 3 - Silence of the Lambs - 1991

In desperation an FBI agent who is attempting to track down a missing woman turns to a psychopathic killer for help. As the agent builds a relationship with the killer we are driven deep into his sick mind. The race is on to get the answers from him that will save the woman's life.

Silence of the Lambs Trailer

Number 2 - Taxi Driver - 1976

This is the story of an ex-Vietnam war veteran who is suffering from insomnia and works as a night time Taxi driver. He begins to realize just how evil the world is and that someone needs to do something about it. It is the story of a man who has been ostracized from society and takes matters into his own hands to make things right. A depressing film but worth a watch.

Taxi Driver Trailer

Number 1 - The Game - 1997

Obviously I like this one.

This is a film about a lonely but very successful business man who is given a strange gift by his far more reckless brother who just enjoys living life as it is dealt. The gift leads him on a strange but edge of your seat adventure. The movie has some serious twists at the end and is in my opinion an all time great. Check it out.

I've seen all except The Prestige. I loved The Sixth Sense and The Game. The ending of Seven upset me too much... How about adding The Others?

Hmmm - I don't think I would have added the Prestige (although it's a good movie). Like others below, I definitely would have added Usual Suspects - one of my favorites. I love it tho' when I find a movie list where I can say I've seen 'em all!

Great list. I agree with most, although you have one of my least favorite movies on there (Pulp Fiction).

Great lens, Writer. I really disliked "Pulp Fiction," so I wouldn't have included that one, but I do agree with the rest. Nice job!

Awesome lens, really good job!

All of those movies are great, but Silence of the Lambs is the best thriller in here I think.
